Session B

19 Oct 2009

The job of JRSO is very important and we rely on all our JRSOs to help us get the messages of Road Safety across to their fellow pupils and even members of the community out with the school. There are lots of ways to do this but it is important that our JRSOs are confident with speaking and presenting to others.

We thought we would help out the JRSOs and give them the opportunity to expand on all their great skills and learn a bit more about presenting, through a drama workshop and role play.  This is an additional way of getting the road safety message across at school assemblies rather than just speaking.

JRSOs were given a short story relating to Road Safety taken from the Streetsense assembly pack and they were asked to come up with an ending of their own. They had no props other than the use of drawing materials such as pens and paper. Some wonderful works of art!  They were given time to put their ideas on paper and then practice their play.  After 20 minutes they all had the opportunity to “perform” their play in front of the other schools in their group.

This was enjoyed greatly by all, and we were treated to some master class performances by some possible future Oscar winning  pupils!

Streetsense Story  - My Kid Sister’s A Menace!

Older brother narrates the story of his annoying sister who is always hanging around and getting in the way. He even has to take her to school and is getting really fed up and embarrassed by the way she acts. He plans to lose her on the way to school tomorrow so that he can walk with his pals.

SCENE

Older brother or sister in bedroom writing in diary.

“Dear Diary, what a day it’s been! If I have to take my kid sister to school again I’m going to die of shame!  I can’t believe how embarrassing she is. Just because she walks to school with me, she thinks she can be one of my gang – I don’t think so!  She interrupts all the time and tells stupid stories.  Tomorrow I’m going to leave my lunch box at home and get her to run back for it. That’ll get rid of her for a while!”

Whitlett's Primary

19 Oct 2009

Whitletts Primary, wrote a song along to the tune of Mama Mia and created a dance with a Road Safety theme which they presented to their fellow JRSOs at the celebration. You can see the lyrics below.

JRSO Song Lyrics (Along to tune of Mama Mia)

J R S O here we go again my my we are here to help you
