what is a JRSO?

JRSO stands for Junior Road Safety Officer. Primary 6 pupils are appointed or selected for their primary school, usually for a one year period. Some schools may choose to also have JRSOs from Primary 5 & Primary 7 pupils. JRSO posts in some schools may also last for longer than one year. Some schools also involve other pupils by having Assistants to form a JRSO team to help the lead JRSOs. JRSOs are supported in their schools by an Adult Co-ordinator. Different schools may very well have their own ways of working. There's no one correct way to run JRSO – it all depends on what best suits the school.

The JRSOs and all their helpers are a huge help to the Road Safety Officer for the local area, as they help promote road safety issues within the school and local community.
